How Boundaries Steal your Points

The new video is up and it’s a really important one.  It covers boundaries and how it affects your points.  This is usually in regards to takedowns but in some situations it can affect sweeps and submissions.

 

This video is only 2 minutes long as it is actually pretty simple topic that just appears confusing because usually it is something fast paced that takes the competitors out of bounds.

Points for Positions

Todays video is covering where you do and where you don’t get points under IBJJF rules.  This is probably the most confusing part for people as different tournaments (Non IBJJF) have different rules regarding points.

The goal here is to ensure everyone is aware of how the points will get scored at Mind Body Soul (and other Arashi Do/IBJJF tournaments).  The video is short, only 6 minutes and does cover the details quite well

I got Mad Sweeps!

Sweeps, the most confusing part of BJJ.  It is a super dynamic area to work with and can things can move at an extremely fast pace.  Refs are always on edge trying to to make sure they catch all the details and many competitors move so quickly that they themselves get confused.

In this short 4 minute video Coach Paul goes over what is needed to get your points for sweeps and what are some common places competitors mess up on and end up giving away sweep points to their competitor.

How to Score with Passes in BJJ

Passing Guard can be tricky at times, but fret not we have a great short video (under 3 minutes) that should clear things up.

This video is not super detailed but rather a guideline of what constitutes a guard pass and what you must do to ensure you get points.

 

The biggest challenge I see for people not getting points is not securing the position for 3 seconds.  A lot of people forsee their guard getting passed and turn to their knees.  Watch the video to see where you need to keep them to get your points and then work your moves to make sure you can score.

How to Score at the Mind Body Soul

The Mind Body Soul is Alberta’s longest running Jiu Jitsu tournament and with that we have seen the evolution of the sport in Alberta from the beginning.  One of the biggest challenges we see is how the scoring system in interpreted.  To help with the confusion with the growing number of rules and how they are understood, we have made a series of short videos.

We hope that this will help Competitors, Coaches, Parents and Spectators better enjoy the tournaments.  It can be very frustrating losing to rules you were not aware of and to understand them fully is a very big task.  If you would like to look further into the rules please go to http://www.ibjjf.org (under the referee heading) to get the most up to date copy.

Please enjoy this video.  With the help of Coach Pritpaul Phul we tried to keep this a brief overview of the rules, not a detailed breakdown of every technique and how the rules are applied.  It should cover 80% of the situations encountered.  If you have any questions please come out to our ref clinic Saturday June 11th (more info to come shortly).

Costs for Divisions:

Pre Register before May 31

Children Game/Muay Thai – ages 4-6 = $30 for 1 and $10 for the other

Children Ages 7-15 = $50 for 1st division and $10 for each one after that

Women =$60 for 1st division and $10 for each one after that

All other Adult Divisions = $75 for 1st division and $15 for each one after that

 

MBS 2016Pre Register June 1- June 10
