Reason #1 to Compete at the Mind Body Soul (MBS)

BJJ White beltWe want you to have the best tournament experience we can offer.  Over the next several weeks we will share why YOU should come out and compete.  Granted not everything will apply to you, but some of these might make apply to a friend or teammate who is on the fence about competing.

Reason #1 is for the White Belts out there.  It can be scary as a beginner.  Class itself can be a challenge for some.  The thought of competing at a larger tournament can be down right terrifying, but it can also be incredibly rewarding and a fantastic way to test your skills in a safe environment.

At the MBS we spilt White Belts into two divisions, under 9 months and over 9 months.  We know for some the journey from White Belt to Blue Belt can take some time and lets face it, putting up a 3 months White Belt vs a 16 month White Belt isn’t much of a challenge.  By splitting up the experience levels we can offer a fair challenge for those in each division.  If you are under 9 months but would like more of a challenge then feel free to go into the Intermediate Division.

To make it even better for the White Belt Novice (under 9 months) we are offering Double Elimination in the Gi.  We know that first match can really get the adrenaline going and it doesn’t alway work out the way you want.  Don’t worry.  If you lose your first match you can still go on to fight for 3rd place.

Stay tuned for more reasons why you and your team mates should compete this month.

Calling All You Classy Guys

executive bjj MBS

You know who you are… you’re over 35, young enough to have fun but you don’t need to be competing against those young whipper snappers living in mommy and daddy’s house, not working so they can train twice a day and have cardio for days.  You’re refined, educated… you like to choke people and what’s wrong with that?

At this years Mind Body Soul we will be having divisions for you, you classy guy over 35.  We will do our best to split divisions to be as fair as possible for weight and experience and age.  If we can get more than 6 Executives (which we had more last time), then we will start splitting up divisions even more.

Over 40?  If we have enough guys we will do a division for you as well as long as we can keep everything fair.

Executive divisions will be Double Elimination and for the Gi only.

We really want to encourage the Executives and the Women to come out this year and start building the community for these groups.  Please come out and support the sport and our event June 21st.

Stay tuned for schedule details and many more announcements.

Love and respect,

Mike Yackulic

Less Than a Month Out and Tons to Talk About

MBS Timeline 2014
I am very happy to note that the Mind Body sol is getting bigger and bigger every year.  The down side is more challenges come with it… so I have decided to bring on Lane Binetruy of the Westend Arashi Do to help as Coordination Director.

Lane is well versed in BJJ Competitions as a coach and a loyal assistant, so I am very happy to bring someone of his experience and become a team.

Over the next few weeks you will see many posts popping up on our Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/BJJ.Tournies.  We have some very cool news and I am SUPER excited about this years Pre-Registration gift.  I can’t believe I have kept this a secret so far, it is valued at $50!

So stay tuned and good luck in training,

Mike Yackulic/Lane Binetruy

Executive Divisions for BJJ 35 years +

New grappling divisions coming to Mind Body Soul and Capital City Championships!

There have been requests in the past to have a place for some of our older competitors a chance to test themselves without having to go up against 20 years that train all day.

It always amazed me how many of the older competitors came out and competed against the young guys.

Well this year it is going to happen for competitors 35 and older.  We are very excited to be able to offer it this year and if we have 6 or more competitors 40 and up we will make a separate division for them as we’ll.

If this is something that interests you, spread the word.  The more people we have, the more divisions we can make.
